Ice on the pond

Despite the sub-freezing temperatures, the fountain’s still flowing in our fish pond.     We call it a fish pond though we no longer keep fish in our backyard refuge.  We were discouraged after a Blue Heron paid us a visit.  The big bird actually came twice:  once for lunch and then returning the next day for dinner.

I recall one day last year when the temperature was in the teens  for several days in a row.  It created upside down icicles.   So far this year the ice is only on the surface of the pond and the base of the pump from which the water flows.   Brrrrrrrrrrrr!
