John Pruitt’s retirement dinner

John Pruitt was the celebrity among celebrities at his retirement dinner Thursday evening.   It was a black-tie affair at the Cherokee Town Club near the Governor’s mansion.  There were touching tributes from his family, friends and many of his past and present associates at WSB-Television.  I first met John’s beautiful wife, Andrea, forty six years ago at the beginning of John’s broadcast journalism career.   She and I pose for the camera remembering those early days.   John appeared  to be deeply touched by the many accolades from friends and family.   His  wife and daughters told us that the genuine John Pruitt you see on the air is the same  at home.   One of his daughters said that he’s even better at home as a husband, father and grandfather.  At the end of the event, John and Andrea, pose with John’s 97-year-old mother, their daughters and sons-in-law.       John told us that his “soul’s at rest” as he steps into the next phase of his life.  His last day on the anchor desk is Friday.   But thankfully, we’ll still see him from time to time.   Atlanta’s “treasure” will be  producing specials on “Georgia’s Hidden Treasures”.      We love you John!
