By any other name

Last night and today, a storm stormed  through several sections of Metro Atlanta and points north.   WSB-Televisions cameras and reporters gave us a good look at the damage caused by whatever it was.   Our people reported that the National Weather Service is investigating whether tornadoes or strong winds are responsible for the damage.   This always has seemed to me to be a useless exercise in semantics.     Call them tornadoes or high winds, by any other name, the damages still are the same.

On a related subject, it’s always puzzled me why an insurance company will pay to remove a tree if it falls on your house or other structure.   But if the tree hits the ground, you pay for the cleanup.   Why?
