“All Quiet on the Western Front”

“All Quiet on the Western Front” is a classic movie from TCM, the Turner Classic channel from 1932.    The TCM summary of the two hour and fifteen minute drama, “A German Youth eagerly enters World War I but his enthusiasm wanes as he gets a firsthand view of the horror.”  For those who have been in combat on either side, it’s a story that is timeless.   We go into battle over and over again because one nation attacks another or because our leaders convince us it’s necessary to protect our national interests.   In the movie, the soldier returns home on leave.   A professor wants his former student to tell the young boys now in his class about his heroism.  Instead, he tells them this, “We live in the trenches out there.   We fight.  We try not to be killed.  Sometimes we are.”
