Doc’s 79th

E.P. “Doc” Ellison is a long-time friend who this week is observing 79 years since he came out of his mother’s womb.   Doc’s actual birthday was July 6th.   Four days later, Doc and his wife Tricia, were among the many who gathered to celebrate.   We were at a farm home near Bremen, Georgia that Doc bought ten years ago.   Doc’s son, Paul, now lives there with Doc’s daughter-in-law, Erin, and Doc’s two-year-old grandson, Eli.  Doc is a former Cobb County Commissioner.  The property investor and his son, Paul, are now in the home repair and building business.    Tricia owns a hair-stylist shop.   These are Doc’s family members representing three generations.  The third generation includes five grandchildren.  Paul and his family are on the far right.  It was a hot July (93 degrees) Sunday afternoon, but Doc’s people had put up open air tents for shade.   We enjoyed a meal by Jimmy Sullivan’s professional caterers.   It was headlined with fish and chicken.  In answer to my questions, Doc told me that when he’s gone,  he’d like to be remembered as a “good daddy.”    His advice to his children and grandchildren is a paraphrase of the golden rule:  “treat others as you’d like to be treated.”  Happy life, Doc!!
