An adventurous day with my son

My son Scott and I joined retired coach-teacher Danny Potts in starting a foot-race timing company.   You can check it out at  Scott has dubbed one of our trucks “Big Daddy”.  It’s a big 16-foot cutaway Chevrolet van. We were up at 4 a.m. to time a race in Rome, Georgia..about 70 miles northwest of Atlanta.  After the race, “Big Daddy”  wouldn’t start.   A couple of  runners-volunteers at the race tried to help, but to no avail.   One of the would- be good Samaratians thought it might be a relay. Another guessed the truck-like van needed a new starter.     In my mini-van, Scott and I drove to several stores and a Chevrolet dealer in and around Rome trying to find the parts.   We finally did but getting a professional mechanic was a bigger problem.   After several hours of on and off negotiations by phone and prayer, John Lee and his partner agreed to come.  The Korean-born Lee installed the starter and made a suggestion about the alarm system that might have been part of the problem.

I was glad to pay mechanic Lee a premium price for interupting his weekend afternoon.  On reflection,  I also was happy spending the more than 6 hours with Scott.  We firmly believe that “God helps those who help themselves.  We also believe that God helps those who can’t help themselves.   Hallelujah!
