Turtles at Jekyll

This is one of the many sea turtles at the “Georgia Sea Turtle Center” on Jekyll Island.  It’s just a few minutes from St. Simons.     The  mission of the Center is to save the sea turtles .     In addition to a turtle hospital, they have surgical teams that   attempt to repair wounds.  This group of vets and techs  is working on a huge turtle that has lost its left flipper.  The Sea Turtle Center also looks out for land and marsh based turtles.  In this picture is a diamond-back terrapin from the nearby marshes. A terrapin is a turtle, but a turtle is not always a terrapin.
