“Athletes not Gladiators”

A Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman spoke out after Kansas City fans cheered as the other team knocked the Chiefs’ quarterback unconscious. The fans were unhappy with their team’s play, particularly the quarterback. The offensive lineman characterized the fans’ behavior as “sick”. He said, “we are athletes, not gladiators.” Pro football players may not be gladiators who fight to the death, but the hits they put on each other could…and have caused deaths. The lineman believes that most pros realize that by playing the game, they’re shortening their lives and reducing the quality in later years, but he declared it’s worth it to play the game. In short, he wants fans to cheer outstanding plays, but not the injuries…..regardless of how unhappy you may be with the athlete who’s hurt
