A show of hands

This is from a memorial service today (Sunday) for my long-time running buddy and friend Byron Brown. Byron died in a one car accident just one week ago. He was on his way to a race. Almost 30 of Byron’s running buddies sat in the first few pews on the right hand side at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church just outside Atlanta. The retired army Lt. Colonel and his widow, Marylyn, had been members of St. Luke for several years. When one of the church’s ministers, Shannon Dill, asked how many people Byron had done favors, helped them in some way? She called for a show of hands.Minister Dill had a laundry list of the ways Byron had affected lives. Almost everyone in the sanctuary raised their arms for one of them…many more than once.Marylyn turned to watch. It was a good celebration of a good man’s life.
