When a tragedy happens as it did today in Newstown, Conn., I wonder if the media or the movies share any of the blame…any of the blame for a mentally imbalanced person to act out his or her frustrations? Is it part of the price we’ll always pay for a free society,,, for a free press (media)? In the earlier days of television, we at WSB regularly debated whether an event would happen if no TV cameras were there? Were we the catalyst? Did people do crazy things because they anticipated the TV cameras would come…that their acts of violence would forever live in history? Similarly, do violent movies and music, particularly rap, push “crazy” people over the cliff?
How much do we contribute to tragedies?
