The Brandenburg Gate

I’ve finished hundreds of marathons. People often asked me which was my favorite. I can’t answer that question, but the most memorable was the Berlin Marathon after the Berlin wall came down.BrandenburgGateIt’s the most memorable because I jogged part of the race with a miniature replica of the Brandenburg Gate. The replica was about 10 feet-long and 3-feet wide. it was on wheels. The 18th-century built arch had become the symbol of a re-united Germany. Several of us would surround the replica and jog along beside pushing it for about a mile. New escorts would change out as most, after a mile, would return to their own pace. The Brandenburg replica finished far behind me, but I’ll always remember my one- mile contribution to its success.
