Tonight once again had me watching the 1970 movie, “Patton”. George C. Scott earned an oscar for his portrayal of World War II General George S.Patton. His troops nicknamed Patton “Old Blood and Guts”. As one soldier intoned sarcastically, “it’s his guts and our blood.” The movie writers wrote that Patton believed in reincarnation..that he had been on many battlefields throughout history. The dialog characterized the Tank Commander as an “anachronism”. The movie is 43 years old…the time it portrayed, World War II, is now almost 70 years ago. Can you imagine Patton’s attitudes in today’s military? Perhaps someone will write a sequel to “Patton” and move him reincarnated into the 21st century.
